Analyst Urges the Montreal Canadiens to Go Get Sidney Crosby
One analyst believes the Montreal Canadiens should do whatever it takes to pry Sidney Crosby out of Pittsburgh.
Recent reports have suggested that Sidney Crosby could sign another extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins before the start of the 2026-27 season, though not everyone is buying it.
Analyst Sid Seixeiro is skeptical that Crosby will finish his career in Pittsburgh, and he is specifically urging Kent Hughes and the Canadiens to be bold and make the move to bring one of the all-time greats to Montreal.
“I’ll believe that when I see it. As loyal as Sidney Crosby is to the Pittsburgh Penguins, I think one day he’s gonna look at Kyle and say I think you’re an idiot… The last time I checked, the Montreal Canadiens’ quest for another center has not been completed. That’s the only place he would go, right? His childhood team. Montreal Canadiens fans right now, a first-round pick and Michael Hage for Sidney Crosby, do you do it? Kent Hughes, you’ve danced with Matthew Knies and you’ve danced with Marchenko and you’ve danced with who knows, maybe you called Detroit on Dylan Larkin. You’ve gotta make one call, go get Crosby. You’ve got the prospects, you’ve got the picks, you’ve got a team ready to make a move. What Montreal Canadiens fan says no to that?”
The 39-year-old Crosby has one year remaining on the two-year, $17.4 million contract extension he signed with the Penguins just prior to the 2024 campaign. He tallied 74 points (29 goals, 45 assists) in just 68 games played last season.

After years of Crosby trade rumors taking up a ton of oxygen, they quieted down this past season thanks to Pittsburgh’s unexpected playoff appearance. Because of that and Evgeni Malkin re-signing, all signs would point to the captain remaining a Penguin moving forward.
That being said, if he enters the season without a new deal, then the noise around Crosby in Pittsburgh could get loud, especially if they get off to a slow start. There’s no doubt that if he ever did decide to move on, Montreal would be the number one landing spot.
