Agent Having Field Day Shooting Down Blockbuster Marchenko Trade Rumors
Kirill Marchenko’s agent is responding publicly to trade rumors, shooting down reports from accounts that claim to know what’s going on.
Speculation continues to swirl around a potential blockbuster trade sending Columbus Blue Jackets winger Kirill Marchenko to the Montreal Canadiens, but the player’s own agent, Dan Milstein, has spent recent days publicly dismantling much of the chatter circulating online. In fact, he seems to be having a field day calling people out.
The latest wave of rumors suggested Montreal had already been given the green light to discuss a contract extension with Marchenko’s camp, with a deal between the two clubs reportedly close to being finalized. Milstein wasted little time pushing back on the report, mocking the account behind it and suggesting a random person off the street would have more credible information.
“Incredible reporting. Truly. The confidence here is doing a lot of heavy lifting, shame it’s not attached to anything real. But hey, the “likes” don’t know that,” he wrote.
Other outlets have jumped on the Marchenko trade rumors, “reporting” something does appear to be developing between the two organizations. One account went so far as to say they were taking time away from their vacation to report what they’d heard, suggesting that a deal could see a third team get involved. That same report also floated the idea that Montreal’s interest in Columbus isn’t limited to Marchenko, pointing to another Jackets forward capable of playing center who has largely flown under the radar in the rumor mill.
Milstein quickly responded to that one as well. “Go back to your vacation, man the mystery forward is doing more work than your “sources” right now.”
When Milstein didn’t respond to every fake report, a fan asked where he’d gone. Milstein responded to that one with a quip he was still trying to decide if the day’s rumors were “10% true or 0% true.”
Milstein Isn’t A Fan of Fake Reports Regarding His Client
It’s not often that you see agents respond so publicly to trade rumors. They are a part of the business, as are fake accounts who claim to have credible information and are playing the odds that, at some point, they’ll guess correctly. Milstein seems to have grown tired of it.

These exchanges highlight how frustrating it likely is for agents who try to rep their clients but also keep a handle on trade rumors getting out of control. There is a growing divide between speculative social media accounts chasing engagement and more grounded reporting trying to make sense of the rumors linking Marchenko to Montreal.
For now, it appears the only certainty is that a deal, if it happens, is far from close — and that Marchenko’s camp is keeping a close eye on who’s saying what.
Whether Montreal ultimately lands Marchenko, a different Blue Jackets forward, or nothing at all remains to be seen. But as the rumor mill heats up ahead of any potential move, it’s clear not everyone reporting on it is working from the same information — or any real information at all. For those who aren’t, Milstein is happy to call you out. Will it stop those accounts from posting things? Probably not. In fact, it might encourage it since these same accounts get a bump when someone credible reacts to what they post.
