The Winnipeg Jets have extended forward Adam Lowry to a $3.25M x 5 year contract that begins next season. This is a key signing for the Jets as Lowry would have been extremely attractive for teams in NHL free agency, had he gotten there. Darren Dreger of TSN broke the news and the team confirmed the signing Friday afternoon.

The Jets have several prominent names scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency this summer, perhaps none more important than the checking center. The 28-year-old is finishing off a three-year, $8.75MM deal he signed with the Jets in 2018 and that the Jets got this deal done for not much more money than he’s currently making has to be considered a big win. Yes, it is a flat cap, but he probably could have gotten more.

The Lowry contract details:

  • Year 1, $2.5 M
  • Year 2, $3.25 M
  • Year 3, $4.5 M
  • Year 4, $3.5 M
  • Year 5, $2.5 M (again, AAV is $3.25 M)
  • All salary, no signing bonus money.
  • Deal includes a modified no-trade clause.
