Ullmark Leaves Game, Oilers Snap Senators’ Streak with 3-1 Win
Ullmark left injured as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Ottawa Senators heading into the holiday break with a solid effort and sound defense.
The Edmonton Oilers capped off their pre-holiday schedule with a convincing 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators, snapping Ottawa’s winning streak and continuing their red-hot stretch. The game took an unexpected turn when Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark exited after the first period due to an upper-body injury, as confirmed by the team in a mid-game statement. Ullmark’s absence forced Ottawa to turn to backup Leevi Merilainen, while the Oilers took advantage, securing their 11th win in 13 games.

Oilers Among the Hottest Team in the NHL Heading into the Break
The Oilers continued their solid form, improving to 11-2 in their last 13 games. The win solidifies their position in the Pacific Division, now sitting second with 44 points (21-11-2). Edmonton heads into the NHL’s Christmas break as one of the league’s most dangerous teams, riding momentum built on solid defense and star performances.
The stars are playing like stars, and the team’s depth is starting to pick up the slack. There was no Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the game, thanks to an illness that was announced just before game time. Viktor Arvidsson stepped in on the top line and played extremely well.
Hyman Stays Hot, Arvidsson Steps Up, Henrique Finally Scores
Zach Hyman extended his torrid scoring pace, netting another goal to give him the most goals in December across the NHL. After a slow start to the season, Hyman’s ability to finish plays is back and he’s on fire, likely making the Team Canada selection committee retreat not picking him for the 4 Nations Face-Off team.
Viktor Arvidsson impressed while filling in for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the top line. He scored a goal and an assist, looking like the top-six talent the Oilers signed in free agency.
Henrique entered the game on a 17-game goal drought but finally found the back of the net. After the game, he emphasized the importance of staying focused against a surging Ottawa team. Henrique noted that the Oilers knew they had to stick to their game plan and avoid getting distracted.
Oilers Solid Defense Shuts Down the Senators
The Oilers delivered a strong defensive performance, particularly in the second half of the game. They limited the Senators to one goal and effectively kept the Sens on the outside, limiting their shots on goal. Stuart Skinner made 21 saves.
This was the kind of game the Oilers should feel good about going into the break. They limited any sustained offensive pressure and worked solidly as a group. They are becoming a complete team poised for a deep playoff run.
With 11 wins in 13 games, surging stars, and depth contributions, the Oilers are proving they’re legitimate contenders heading into the second half of the season.
