With only six days to go until the NHL Trade Deadline, there are updates coming in daily in respect to Matt Duchene and what’s going on with his negotiations with the Ottawa Senators.
Decision on Duchene Around the Corner
Darren Dreger of TSN said, “Unless there’s last minute change, the Ottawa Senators plan on trading Matt Duchene. This comes after news the team has not actually approached Duchene and told him to make a firm decision on whether or not he wants to sign or not.
Unless there’s last minute change, the Ottawa Senators plan on trading Matt Duchene. Mark Stone’s future in Ottawa should also be determined early this week, well in advance of the trade deadline.

The latest news is that Duchene has been tabled an offer and they’ve given him the time and space to decide what he wants to do without pressuring him. The last word was that he would sleep on things. Unfortunately for the Senators, the team is getting close to crunch time and a decision is needed so they can make a trade that works for the team moving forward.
The most likely teams inquiring about Duchene are the Nashville Predators, New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets are rumored to have offered Alexander Wennberg as part of their offer but the Senators are unsure if that’s a wise move considering his production and sizeable contract.
The Predators are also rumored to be interested and if they do land him, might want to make that deal a long-term contract as soon as he lands in Nashville. Duchene has said that he’s not opposed to signing an extension before the end of the season with the team that acquires him.
Per sources, assuming he's traded by the deadline, Matt Duchene is open to the idea of signing a contract extension with the acquiring team. https://t.co/Ehkt7BWBBG

A decision is expected in the next couple days and other teams are actively waiting for Duchene to move so that they know if they are either in our out and what the market will be once he’s traded. Ottawa has been doing their homework and scouting teams, talking to GM’s and planning for the minute Duchene says he’s not willing to commit to an extension.
It was later updated that Duchene was being pulled out of the Senators lineup until he either signed or was traded adding to the speculation something was coming soon.
