According to Sports.Ru, Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov is on the verge of agreeing to an eight-year contract with the team, one that will likely make him a very rich player. Currently a restricted free-agent, Svechnikov was a player that Hurricanes wanted to get locked up on a long-term deal. It appears they may have successfully done so.

As per the report and the translation below:

“Forward Andrei Svechnikov will sign a new contract with Carolina. The term of the agreement will be calculated for 8 years, according to the journalist of “Sport-Express” Artur Khairullin.  In 55 games of the 2020/21 season, Svechnikov scored 42 (15 + 27) points, and added 8 (2 + 6) points in 11 NHL playoff games.  The club had previously made him a qualifying offer.”

Terms of the deal were not released and we’ll have more information as it becomes available. Speculation is that the deal will be around $8.75 million per season.

If this deal is in the bag, the questions will move to what the Hurricanes choose to do next and if there’s anything to the chatter that they might have an interest in Vladimir Tarasenko.
