Seth Jones Sends Funny Tweet To Brother After Oilers Sign Jones to Extension

Caleb Jones signed with Edmonton for two more seasons and his brother Seth had a little fun with the news.

The Edmonton Oilers made a smart call in signing young defenseman Caleb Jones to a two-year extension on Wednesday. The deal will see him make $825K per season over the next two seasons starting in 2020.

This is fair contract for a young man who is just scratching the surface of what he’ll provide the Oilers over the next two years. One of the young core of blueliners Edmonton is working through their system, he’s been called up this season and looks as though he’s got a pretty good shot of maintaining residency with the Oilers as they try and cement themselves as a playoff team.

Along with Ethan Bear, Jones has been a bright spot for the Oilers who look to have a couple good young d-men ready to make a dent and contribute.

Seth Jones Has Bit of Fun

Congratulations to Caleb, but what might be the best part about the news is how his brother Seth — who plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets — reacted. He tweeted congrats to his younger brother, but at the same time took a fun shot saying, “Congrats bro! Hopefully your wallet comes out of hiding now @Jones4Caleb“.

Caleb was on TSN’s 1260 today after the news of his signing and said he watched a lot of his brother’s games during a time when he was in Nashville. But, it wasn’t his brother he said he wanted to emulate. It was Roman Josi who was on the ice the other night opposite Caleb as the Oilers defeated the Nashville Predators 4-2. No wonder Seth felt like having a little fun at Caleb’s expense.

The Oilers GM Ken Holland is getting praise for his extension and getting Jones in at a fair price for the next two seasons. Now, he just needs to ensure Ethan Bear and Darnell Nurse deals get done and at fair value for the Oilers as well.
