Senators’ Josh Norris Could Be Done For Season After Injury News

Ottawa Senators center Josh Norris could be done for the season as a shoulder injury will keep him out long term and might require surgery.

As is being reported by multiple outlets, Josh Norris of the Ottawa Senators is out long-term with a shoulder injury. There are questions about whether he’ll require surgery and some speculation from head coach DJ Smith seems like he is not confident Norris will play again this season.

Ian Mendes of TSN reports that Norris will be out long-term (three to five months was a rough estimate), and a decision about surgery will be made in the next few days. This is a big blow to the team’s top six. Smith said it would be a bonus to get him back at any point but if there’s a silver lining, the Senators will likely move his contract to LTIR and get cap relief. $7.95 million coming off of the books opens the doors for the Senators to go out and add a significant piece. If Norris is able to return for the postseason, his cap hit won’t count against the team’s total.

Norris, 23, has one goal and two points in five games this season. He had 35 goals and 55 points in 66 games with the Senators last season. The forward is in the first season on an eight-year, $63.6 million contract, which carries a $7.95 million cap hit, signed in July.

Long-term, the hope is that Norris recovers and can get back to playing at full strength. In the short term, the team will have options and there are plenty of NHL clubs looking to move salary.
