Senators Goalie Linus Ullmark Leaves Game with Injury
Senators goalie Linus Ullmark left Wednesday’s game against the Panthers with a non-contact injury. Here’s what we know.
Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark was helped off the ice by a trainer during Wednesday’s game against the Florida Panthers after suffering a non-contact injury on a routine save.
Ullmark appeared to be in clear pain and left the game under his own limited power. While there hasn’t been an update on the injury’s severity, it certainly didn’t look good. It added to an already dramatic and heated game, the first back for former Senators forward Brady Tkachuk. Fans threw jerseys onto the ice during the stoppage.
Ullmark had stopped 16 of 17 shots before exiting. Backup Samuel Ersson entered to play the final 16:25 of the game.

The Senators Can’t Afford to Lose Ullmark
Ullmark has been one of the NHL’s best stories this season and is an early Vezina Trophy front-runner. He came into the night with a .945 save percentage through seven games. Ersson has had a tougher start, posting a .829 save percentage in three appearances before Wednesday.

The team hasn’t announced the nature or severity of the injury. Watching from the broadcast, it looked like a pulled muscle, though that is speculation, and the way he left the ice suggests it may not be a day-to-day issue. If Ullmark misses time, veteran Jonas Johansson, Ottawa’s third goalie, would likely be recalled.
Ottawa led Florida 5-1 late in the game. Their next game is Thursday at home against the San Jose Sharks.
