Senators Eyeing Trade, Josh Norris Among Possible Big Names

The Ottawa Senators dismiss Brady Tkachuk trade rumors but are exploring a Josh Norris trade as a major shake-up move.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that the Ottawa Senators are actively exploring potential roster moves while firmly dismissing rumors of a Brady Tkachuk trade. The organization recognizes the urgency of improving their lineup, especially after making offseason additions to bolster the team. Despite these efforts, the Senators remain short of expectations and are now considering a big trade to shake things up.

One name generating significant trade buzz is Josh Norris. The 25-year-old forward, with a reasonable cap hit relative to his capabilities, has reportedly been a focal point of discussions. According to Pagnotta, Norris may be the centerpiece of a “big impact, shake-up type of move.” Other core players, such as Thomas Chabot and Drake Batherson, have also been mentioned, though Norris appears to be the primary candidate. Calgary has shown strong interest in Norris in the past, raising the possibility of renewed talks between the two teams.

The Senators have also reportedly considered the futures of veteran forward Claude Giroux, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Giroux’s productivity makes him a potential rental option for contending teams, though the priority remains to retain their best assets and avoid a rebuild.

As Ottawa aims to solidify its playoff contention, the coming weeks will reveal whether the organization pulls the trigger on a game-changing hockey trade.

We Can Drop the Brady Tkachuk Trade Talk… Or Can We?

Meanwhile, Dennis Bernstein added context to the Tkachuk situation, noting that while the Senators technically could trade their captain before his no-trade clause activates next season, doing so would set the franchise back significantly. “If you trade Brady Tkachuk, you’re going backward. You’d essentially be resetting the franchise five years,” Bernstein emphasized.

But, as Bernstein pointed out, if something changes and both sides pivot on their stance to remain committed to each other, the best chance the Senators have to trade Tkachuk for the biggest package is this season.
