Sabres Owner and GM Talk to Team: One Name Safe From Trade
The Buffalo Sabres players did meet with the GM and the owner and were sent a vote of confidence, with one player not on the trade block.
As per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the Buffalo Sabres are not going to go out and try to make a big trade to snap a 10-game losing skid. Instead, as bad as things have gone for this Sabres club, owner Terry Pegula and general manager Kevyn Adams have told the roster the fix is already in the room.
“Sources indicate #Sabres players met with owner Terry Pegula and GM Kevyn Adams today in Montreal. Summary of message: “We believe in you. The solution is within this room.” Pegula professed faith in Adams, Ruff, and apparently told players to not expect a big trade.”
This likely won’t sit well with the Sabres’ fan base as this team has struggled mightily for several seasons. However, it also suggests the Sabres aren’t going to make a panic trade that sets the organization back even further. So, what’s the right thing to do?
If the GM and owner believe in this group, that likely means head coach Lindy Ruff is safe. But, it also means the Sabres are aware that this is going to be another long season and the hope is that the team can find a way not to lose every game.
Sabres and Owner Slow Trade Talks, But Team Will Still Be Sellers
The owner and the GM might have let the players know they don’t need to panic about being traded and that there is faith in the group, but that won’t stop trade rumors from spreading. As the trade freeze comes in a couple of days and as the Sabres struggle to make the playoffs, they will sell.
The team has pending UFAs like Jason Zucker, Jordan Greenway, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, and Henri Jokiharju that could be moved. There is also interest in Dylan Cozens.
One player that isn’t going anywhere is Alex Tuch. Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Canucks called and asked about Tuch, and they were told the Sabres have no interest in moving him.
