Ross Colton Heading to Nashville in a Trade with Colorado
Ross Colton has been traded by the Colorado Avalanche to the Nashville Predators in a deal to clear cap space for the Avs.
The Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche are making a trade. New Preds GM Chris McFarland is picking up a player he used to have on his team, acquiring Ross Colton. There was speculation that the Avalanche were looking to move his contract. Given that they have big extensions coming for Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon, plus contracts for Martin Necas and Sam Malinski kicking in, moving Colton’s $4 million was likely a necessity.
“We are very excited to add Ross Colton to our forward mix,” MacFarland said. “Ross is a versatile, two-way winger who will add sandpaper and grit into our middle six group.”
Trade Details:
- To Nashville: Ross Colton and Isak Posch.
- To Colorado: Nashville’s own 3rd-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and Colorado’s own 3rd-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft (previously acquired by Nashville).
Colton, a 29-year-old center, had been with the Avalanche since being acquired from Tampa Bay in 2023. He’s on a $4M AAV contract through 2026-27 and provides depth scoring and playoff experience. This helps Nashville bolster their forward group while giving Colorado some future draft capital and cap flexibility.
“Isak Posch is a talented young netminder who was selected to play in the AHL All-Star game this past year,” MacFarland said. “He is a big goaltender who will add to our already impressive goalie depth.”
