Red Wings Coach Jeff Blashill May Not Make It to Next Season

There is real talk about Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill and how long Detroit keeps him behind the bench.

When your team gives up 10 goals in a single game twice in a month’s time, plus had another team score nine goals against you in a game within the same month, it’s hard to imagine that management would be happy with the way things are going.

With how poorly the Detroit Red Wings have been playing, it’s no wonder there are questions about the head coaching position and Jeff Blashill’s long-term security with the franchise. The Red Wings have essentially rolled over and quit in too many games and for a coach who has been there a while, it’s the wrong direction for a young club to be headed in. Questions about whether Blashill makes it to next season are out there, some wondering if he even makes it to the end of this season.

While talking about what might happen in Detroit over the offseason, Frank Seravalli on the DFO Rundown said he has heard there is “considerable friction” between coach Blashill and some of the younger players on the roster. That isn’t good news. Forward Dylan Larkin said after an 11-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins that this is on the players, but despite Larkin’s comments, there’s a belief outside the locker room that the disconnect between players and Blashill is growing. Seravalli thinks the Red Wings will actually keep him on board because they’ve committed to him, but his DFO co-host Jason Gregor doesn’t agree.

The one thing both agree on is that the Red Wings aren’t likely to make a change this season. An assistant coach would be taking over and only until another coach is likely hired. The best plan may be to do all of that over the offseason.

The biggest concern is that the players seem to have quit on their coach, on the season, and on each other. It’s a bad habit and it’s not a good example for some incredibly gifted youngsters on the roster who can’t let that kind of thinking creep into their game.

AND LET THE GUY WHO GAVE HIM A (2) YEAR EXTENSION TAKE OVER THE COACHING JOB.
IT WILL MAKE HIM A BETTER GM AND HELP HIM DO A BETTER JOB IN HIRING THE NEXT COACH, BEING A PLAYER, HOF, OR NOT, AND BEING A GM, HOF OR NOT, YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT COACHING IS UNTIL YOU DO IT. GET IN THERE STEVE.
