Rangers Acquire Pavel Dorofeyev in Surprise Trade
The New York Rangers have officially acquired forward Pavel Dorofeyev from the Vegas Golden Knights in one of the biggest trades leading up to the 2026 NHL Draft. After initial reports from Darren Dreger and David Pagnotta confirmed the deal, Frank Seravalli revealed the full trade package.
The Rangers receive Dorofeyev, while the Golden Knights acquire the 26th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the 92nd overall pick (third round), and a conditional 2028 first-round pick that is top-10 protected.
The return highlights just how highly New York values Dorofeyev after his breakout season. The 25-year-old winger has developed into a proven goal scorer with an elite release and strong offensive instincts, giving the Rangers another dangerous weapon for their top-six forward group as they continue their pursuit of a Stanley Cup.
For Vegas, the move is another example of the organization’s willingness to sacrifice established players in exchange for future assets. The Golden Knights now hold multiple valuable draft picks, including another first-round selection, while also giving themselves flexibility for future roster moves.

Although the Rangers paid a significant price, acquiring a young, established scorer under team control is rarely inexpensive. If Dorofeyev continues his upward trajectory, New York could view the package as a worthwhile investment in its championship window.
With the draft just around the corner, it remains to be seen how Vegas will use its newly acquired draft capital, but this deal immediately becomes one of the headline transactions of the offseason.
