Pius Suter didn’t set a record, but he certainly reached an incredible feat on Sunday when he did something no other Chicago Blackhawks player has done in 90 years. It couldn’t have come at a better time either as the team was looking for players to step up in a major way.

Suter is the second player in Blackhawks history – and first in nearly nine decades – to score each of his first three career NHL goals in the same game. The last franchise player to do so was Bill Kendall on Dec. 17, 1933.
Suter had one hell of a game, and so did the Blackhawks who trounced the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday by a score of 6-2. Suter finished with three points (all goals) and eight other Blackhawks players put up points as Blackhawks will move to 2-3-1 on the season and are looking for any positives to take away from the 2020-21 campaign. Injury news and an already depleted roster has set the club up for what many believe will be a long season.
Suter said once he scored the second goal before the halfway point of the first period, he was thinking about the third. He knew he had a shot when he’d scored two so quickly into the game. “It was a great feeling, and it will give me some confidence too, it’s a good start for something, keep going.”
Blackhawks Need Players Like Suter to Step Up
With names like Kirby Dach and Jonathan Toews out of the lineup, the Blackhawks sure are hoping Suter’s performance is just the start of things to come. If he’s the type of player who can step up given this opportunity with so many guys out, Chicago may learn they have someone they can call upon.
This isn’t to say Suter will, all of a sudden, become a point-per-game player. They don’t need him to do that. Instead, the Blackhawks simply need players like him to chip in. He did so in a big way on Sunday. We’ll see where it goes from here.
