Jonathan Toews Placed on LTIR by Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks placed Jonathan Toews on long-term injury reserve, leading to more questions about his illness.

It doesn’t appear Jonathan Toews will be returning to the Chicago Blackhawks anytime soon. Along with moves to place defenseman Brent Seabrook on injured reserve, the team placed both Kirby Dach and Toews on long-term injured reserve.

Dach’s move was not surprising considering the nature of his injury. Perhaps Toews move isn’t either because so little is known about what’s ailing him. Still, it’s not great news for the Blackhawks or for their captain as questions will surround how long he’ll be away from the team.

Toews is dealing with a reported illness. Moving him to LTIR means he’ll miss at least ten games and 24 days and won’t be returning until February at the earliest.

The way the Blackhawks were outplayed by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night, it could be a matter of time before the team writes off the season if they have more performances like that. Dylan Strome played more 21 minutes for the Blackhawks, while Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane logged more than 22 minutes each. The Blackhawks simply don’t have the pieces to keep up.

Fingers Crossed for Toews

Whatever it is that’s going on with Toews, all we can offer is our thoughts and hope that this isn’t serious and won’t keep him out much longer than a few weeks. It’s the mysterious nature of the illness that seems to have a lot of people concerned.

Toews had 60 points in 70 games for the Blackhawks last season and 81 points in 82 games the season prior. More than that, he’s been the heartbeat of that Blackhawks organization for more than a decade.
