If true, this deal will probably represent a smart, low-cost gamble for the Senators as Galchenyuk is looking for another chance in the NHL after struggling with the Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes. The 26-year-old started last season with the Penguins, collecting five goals and 17 points in 45 contests before the club traded him to Minnesota in the Jason Zucker trade.
Wild GM Bill Guerin spoke to Galchenyuk’s agent near the end of last season and advised him it was unlikely they’d bring him back. It left Galchenyuk to try and land another job in a tough market where there are still plenty of forwards left on the open market.
Drafted 3rd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, he’s not seen the type of success most would have hoped he’d have, including himself.
