Oilers Get Unlucky, Losing Another Forward As Dickinson Returns
Just as the Edmonton Oilers get Jason Dickinson back, it was learned they are losing another key forward from their lineup due to an injury.
The Edmonton Oilers can’t seem to catch a break. The minute it looks like they’re about to get a healthier lineup, they lose another player. Following news that the Oilers traded for Filip Hallander of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was also reported that the team was activating Jason Dickinson off the injured reserve. Unfortunately, the team also reported they were losing Colton Dach.
The severity of Dach’s injury hasn’t been revealed, but Bob Stauffer hinted that Dach would be out the entire California road trip. That means he’ll miss at least a week and three games.
Where and when Dach got hurt isn’t clear. On October 1, as the Oilers were playing the Canucks, Dach took a dirty hit from Luke Schenn in the first period. He finished the game and played against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday. Jason Gregor wondered if it had something to do with a hit along the boards versus Seattle.
Whatever is ailing him must have flared up.
The Oilers’ 23-man active roster was full, so they had to move Dach to injured reserve to make room for Dickinson’s return.
Good for the Oilers to Get Dickinson Back
Despite the tough news on Dach, Dickinson will be a welcome addition to the Oilers roster. Head coach Mike Babcock noted, “He’s a real intelligent, useful player for us…. He gives us a different complexion. We look forward to him getting up and rolling; it’s probably going to take a bit of time.”

Dickinson replaces Dach in the lineup. As good as Dach has been, he’s been playing out of position as a center and further up the lineup than projected. Dickinson is a much more natural fit in the top nine.
