Oilers Evan Bouchard Knocked Out By Hit to Head in World Championships [Video]
Evan Bouchard was hurt after a hit to the head at the World Championships. What is the latest on his status?
Team Canada defenceman Evan Bouchard exited Thursday’s quarter-final matchup against Team USA after sustaining a hit to the head in the first period. It was a worrying moment in the game and Bouchard was knocked out, eventually needing help to leave the ice surface.
The play occurred just after Bouchard released the puck while entering the offensive zone, when Team USA defenceman Ryan Lindgren made contact. Lindgren went high with the hit and it was directly to the head of Bouchard, knocking him unconcious. Bouchard later came to and was helped off the ice with assistance from a trainer
Lindgren was assessed a five-minute major penalty for an illegal check to the head. On his way to the dressing room he exchanged some words with the Canadian bench.
Bouchard appeared shaken following the hit, and it’s unclear at this stage how serious the injury is.

The Edmonton Oilers blueliner entered the game with one goal and six points through seven tournament appearances. Morgan Rielly, spoke quickly about the hit and said, “You don’t want to see guys go down. Obviously he’s a very important player for us, a very talented player. We need guys to step up, take on more ice time and responsibility . . . We’ll be able to do that.”
