If there’s one thing we’ve learned watching the process unfold with Alex Pietrangelo and NHL free agency, it’s that former teammate Carlo Colaiacovo and now TSN “hockey insider” has eyes all over this situation. Colaiacovo is good friends with the defenseman and he’s been dropping news nuggets before a lot of the other analysts and insiders when it comes to what Pietrangelo is up to. He did so again on Saturday morning.
According to a tweet from Colaiacovo, Pietgranelo will not be making a decision about his playing future today. He writes ,”Alex Pietrangelo will spend the day evaluating his option and is not expected to make his decision today.”
Colaiacovo is a must follow if you’re keeping tabs on what happens with Pietrangelo over the next couple of days. It was on Friday that things got interesting when former Boston Bruins d-man Torey Krug signed a massive extension with the Blues out of nowhere, essentially taking St. Louis off the table. Now, it appears Pietraneglo will have to rethink his strategy or hope the Vegas Golden Knights come through and find the money to sign him.
To make matters even more interesting, Toronto is now likely out of the running as well after signing T.J. Brodie. Still, there are still teams like the Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, and maybe the Bruins who could get in on the action if the former Blues captain is willing to expand his list of teams he’d consider.
This Is a Storyline Worth Watching
Obviously, as the Pietrangelo situation unfolds, we’ll try to bring you up to speed. Day 1 of free agency saw 80 players sign new contracts that combined for just over $302.29M in total dollars.
