NHL Rumors: Kane, Gardiner, Oilers, Isles, More

In today’s NHL rumors and news there are updates on Evander Kane’s ejection and what that means for a suspension, Jake Gardiner is hurt and there are tons of great players on NHL waivers.

In an NHL rumors and news update, there is speculation as to what will happen to Evander Kane after losing his cool against the Vegas Golden Knights and slashing, then pushing an NHL official, there are some big names on the waiver wire today, including in Edmonton where the lineup is becoming a bit clearer based on who was sent down. The Islanders moved a guy they couldn’t trade and the Avalanche might pick up a goaltender.

Kane Will Likely Get 10 Games

As per TSN’s Darren Dreger, Evander Kane’s abuse of an official penalty generally carries an automatic 10 game suspension. Dreger said, “NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will have to confirm and officially enforce the suspension. Unlikely to happen before tomorrow.”

Kane was not pleased with the ejection claiming that the referee was the one who took him down while he was skating away from the play and not engaging Derek Engelland. That said, whether Kane aiming to slash the official or someone else, he did and the rules clearly state that if a player makes contact with an official, (with intent to harm or not) he will be suspended.

NHL Waiver Wire Includes Some Big Names

There are some pretty prominent players on the NHL waiver wire Monday morning. Among them are Luke Schenn, Sam Gagner, Nic Petan, Josh Ho- Sang, Thomas Hickey, and Sven Baertschi. One would have to assume that a player will be picked up.

In Edmonton, Gagner and Brandon Manning going down suggests that William Lagesson earns the No. 7 spot on Edmonton’s defence and the Oilers felt there was more coming out of new forwards like Markus Granlund and Gaetan Haas. As for the forwards, let’s see how it unfolds. Right now it appears Patrick Russell and Haas have the inside track on the 13th and 14th forwards spots. Granlund might be ready to play Wednesday but there could be more coming.

With the Islanders, David Pagnotta writes that Islanders have been trying to trade Hickey since last season. He has three years on his deal at a $2.5 million salary cap hit. The team probably couldn’t find a trade partner which is why he’s on waivers.

Expect the Colorado Avalanche to pick up Eric Comrie off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets, Adrian Dater reports he has been hearing that the Colorado Avalanche are looking for some organizational goalie depth.

Jake Gardiner Injured Already?

On Sunday Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rob Brind’Amour informed Carolina Hurricanes reporter Chip Alexander that he believes he might not have access to Jake Gardiner for the Hurricanes season opener.

Calling Gardiner the “most worrisome” among his injured players, this is not a good sign considering Gardiner had a harder time getting a deal this summer thanks to a higher price tag coupled with a looming injury situation. What is ailing Gardiner right now is unclear. The Hurricanes have admitted there is an injury, but that’s all we know.
