As per a report from TSN insider Darren Dreger, the NHL has finally made a decision on the fate of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. With rumors the league might want to postpone this year’s traditional selections process, they’ve elected to keep the draft in July as originally scheduled.

There was some belief that the 2021 Draft might have been moved to January 2022 or to the summer of 2022 ahead of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. That will apparently not be happening. The draft is scheduled to be held from July 23-24 of 2021.
This is great news for fans who love the draft, but not great news for teams with the highest selections as the scouting process may not be as effective. Steve Yzerman from the Detroit Red Wings was a huge proponent for moving this year’s draft so he could see the players who, in many cases, have been forced to sit due to the pandemic. He wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
In the end, the league must have felt there were too many moving parts and it was simply too difficult to make the switch.
