Frank Seravalli is reporting that the New York Rangers have agreed to a seven-year deal with forward Vincent Trocheck. The deal is worth $5.6 million per season. It’s a huge deal and a long term for a player who is talented and reliable in all three zones. He’s consistent and a bit strong than Ryan Strome who will likely exit the organization after this deal.
Selected 64th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2011 NHL Draft, Trocheck has turned out to be quite the player who has scored 150 goals and 378 points in 555 games. JFresh calls Trocheck a poor man’s Nazem Kadri.
Trocheck spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes but it was speculated he would not be returning to the team this next season. He’s coming off a 51-point season with 21 goals in 81 games. He posted three straight 20-goal seasons with the Panthers, culminating in a career-best 31 goals and 75 points in 2017-18 at the age of 24.
It will be interesting to see how he fits in New York. He’s a good faceoff guy and can play in multiple situations. Is he a top-line or top-six player over the length of this term? The Rangers are about to find out.
