What Happened with Nylander?

The first report from the Maple Leafs’ organization stated that Nylander had been exposed to a possible positive case outside the team. The result was that he was put on the NHL’s COVID protocol list and sat out the Canadiens’ game as a precaution. At that time, he’d been isolating pending further tests.

Those tests came today, and Nylander’s situation was re-evaluated. Today head coach Sheldon Keefe reported that, “The expectation is he’s going to miss a minimum of seven days. We’ll just see how it goes.”

Nylander’s status hasn’t changed since he was placed in COVID protocol on Wednesday. Working backwards, if the timetable is retroactive, Nylander will miss at least the next three games. Insofar as we know now, Nylander did nothing wrong or against the Maple Leafs’ rules and regulations. He might be negative, but testing will further that prognosis as the week goes on.

What We Know Now About Nylander

What we do know is that Nylander will at least be sidelined until Thursday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets under the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols. Expect another update on Nylander before that game.

The Nylander’s situation is one that should be watched carefully. Given what’s happened with the Vancouver Canucks, any COVID-19 team issue could become a difficult situation. Although it’s speculated that he hasn’t been infected, it’s wise to see how this situation unfolds.
