Maple Leafs Waive Michael Hutchinson, Andersen to Play Thursday

With news that Frederik Andersen is ready to return to the lineup, the Toronto Maple Leafs have placed goaltender Michael Hutchinson on waivers Thursday.

Hutchinson’s time in Toronto was likely coming to an end after GM Kyle Dubas finally pulled the trigger on a trade landing Jack Campbell from the Los Angeles Kings. Toronto had been relying on Hutchinson but knew what he was bringing wouldn’t be enough to make the Maple Leafs contenders. Not every game should be blamed on Hutchinson as the Maple Leafs defence in front of him was often horrid or injured. He finished his tenure with the organization posting an .886 save percentage and 3.66 goals-against average.

Andersen is back to full health and will start the game against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, which is great news for the Maple Leafs who are just barely hanging on to a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
