Maple Leafs’ Max Domi Sidelined After Complications from Offseason Surgery

Max Domi of the Toronto Maple Leafs will be sidelined all summer and miss the start of the 2026-27 season after complications from surgery.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi will miss the start of the 2026-27 season after undergoing offseason surgery to repair an injury he played through during the 2025-26 campaign. Unfortunately, thanks to complications arising from the surgery, he will be out longer than expected.

The team announced Monday that Domi is out indefinitely and will be re-evaluated when training camp opens in mid-September. The gritty forward battled the issue all season, a factor believed to have contributed to his inconsistent performance at times.

Domi, 31, appeared in 80 games last season, recording 12 goals and 36 points while playing primarily in a bottom-six role. Known for his energy, physicality, and penalty-killing ability, his absence creates an early hole in Toronto’s forward depth heading into next season.

The veteran remains under contract for two more years at an average annual value of $3.75 million, including a 13-team no-trade list beginning next season.

With Domi potentially sidelined, the Maple Leafs face increased pressure to bolster their middle-six and bottom-nine groups this summer. General manager John Chayka already had a busy summer lined up. It may have gotten busier.

Domi’s recovery timeline remains fluid, but the organization is optimistic he will be ready for the regular season once cleared.

The team did not disclose what the complications were that would lead to his extended absence.
