Maple Leafs’ Jack Campbell Needs a Break

In an effort to give NHL leading goalie Jack Campbell a rest, the Maple Leafs’ head coach Sheldon Keefe announced today that young Joseph Woll would be starting against the Islanders tomorrow. Campbell will get the start tonight, and Woll will follow tomorrow.

A week ago, Woll made his NHL debut against the Buffalo Sabres and won the game. He wasn’t stellar in net, but the team gave him solid offensive support and came back and won the game by a score of 5-4. That makes Woll’s record on the season 1-0-0. The four goals he allowed against the Sabres came on 27 shots.

Woll Needs Good Support to Win This Game

Woll has to hope that he gets good offensive support from his teammates. It’s going to be a tough game to win. The New York Islanders are usually stingy on defense. In an interesting turn of events, the Islanders have two games in two nights on home ice. Tonight they meet the Calgary Flames and tomorrow follow against the Maple Leafs.

The 23-year-old Woll will seek his second straight win on the road against a surprisingly struggling Islanders’ team that has lost four games in a row.

Good luck to the Maple Leafs’ backup.

Hopefully the Leafs will provide Woll good defensive support so he doesn’t get another 4 goals against and therefore need 5 goals from offense.
