Mammoth Match Offer Sheet for Barrett Hayton, Trade Clause Now Kicks In
The Utah Mammoth have matched the New Jersey Devils’ offer sheet for Barrett Hayton, securing him for the next season.
The Utah Mammoth announced on Wednesday that the team has matched the New Jersey Devils’ offer sheet to forward Barrett Hayton. By matching the offer sheet, the Mammoth have signed Hayton to a one-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $4.775 million.
He cannot be traded for a full year. He could potentially leave as an unrestricted free agent in 2027 if not signed to an additional extension.
“Barrett is a key piece of our team and important to what we are building here in Utah,” said Bill Armstrong, general manager of the Utah Mammoth. “He’s strong in the face-off circle, plays both sides of the puck and can play with anyone in our forward group. We are grateful to be able to count on Barrett in our lineup next season.”
Hayton, who signed with the Devils and was prepared to go to New Jersey if the offer sheet wasn’t matched, said, “I’m fired up to get back with my teammates and remain in Utah.” He added, “I’ve been with this core group for my whole career and it’s exciting that we have an opportunity to do some special things next season in front of the best fans in the NHL.”

Hayton, 26, had a strong 2025-26 season with the Mammoth, recording 10-15–25 and 54 PIM in 67 games, plus one playoff appearance. In Utah’s inaugural 2024-25 campaign, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound center set career highs with 20 goals, 26 assists, and 46 points, including 7 power-play goals and a franchise-first hat trick on Feb. 22, 2025. He earned NHL Third Star of the Week honors in January after back-to-back game-winners.
The former Arizona Coyotes first-round pick (5th overall, 2018) has 65-90–155 in 358 NHL games. Internationally, he captained Canada to gold at the 2020 World Juniors (All-Star Team) and played in the 2025 World Championship.
