Kirby Dach Suffers Potentially Serious Injury During Warm Up World Juniors Game

Kirby Dach appears to have hurt his wrist.hand during a warm-up game at the World Junior Championships and he’s going to get x-rays.

It’s a situation every NHL team worries about when they send a prospect who could play for the NHL team to a tournament like the World Junior Championships. That is, an injury that not only takes a player out of the game and the tourney, but potentially affects their availability for NHL games.

While it’s too early to say for sure, such is the concern for Kirby Dach. The Chicago Blackhawks were counting on him being available for NHL games in 2020-21 and he looks to have a potentially serious wrist injury coming out of a warm-up game against the Russian team on Wednesday. During what appeared to be an innocent center-ice collision, Dach injured his hand and went straight down the tunnel.

Reports on Thursday are now that Dach will miss the remainder of the tournament and some NHL time as well. The fear is that he has a broken wrist and if so, that will keep him out long-term, if not most of the 2020-21 NHL season.

It was a simple play in which Dach tried to play the body in the neutral zone, and the dust-up went south in a hurry. There is video of him pulling his hand out of his glove and many have assumed the worst. He immediately heads to the bench and then left the game.

The results of whatever x-rays or tests he has done loom large over Team Canada as Dach was named the team captain and he’s a huge part of their game plan throughout the two-week tournament. For Blackhawk fans, this is potential awful news and there is sure to be some fingers crossed over the next 24 hours.
