Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports the Kings have claimed the netminder off waivers and the 31-year-old will have to go through quarantine (again) before joining the team. Once completed, he’ll likely become the third-string option behind Jonathan Quick and Calvin Petersen.

The Kings had waived Grosenick earlier this season when they tried to get him onto their taxi squad. Because the Oilers were scrambling to find a goalie, they claimed the netminder to cover the team’s need to have three backstops, while also hoping to have a keeper with a bit of experience on the roster. An injured Smith and an inexperienced Stuart Skinner had the Oilers in a tough spot.

Ultimately, Grosenick never played a game for Edmonton, Smith will be activated off of LTIR on Sunday and the Oilers will run Skinner as their taxi squad goalie. Grosenick will have to drive back to LA.

What Will the Kings Do Now?

If Los Angeles was the only team to claim Grosenick, it’s a pretty safe bet they’ll waive him for the purposes of placing him on their taxi squad. If other teams put a claim in, he’ll likely stay on their roster to avoid losing him again.

This has been a rough season for Grosenick who has been moved around repeatedly and had to go through quarantine each time. One can only hope he eventually finds a landing spot so he can get comfortable.
