Veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has officially retired after an impressive 14-year NHL career, as announced by the NHLPA.
A first-round pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, Shattenkirk played 952 regular-season games and 91 playoff contests, earning a reputation as a reliable blueliner and a respected leader. A Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020, he was known for his offensive contributions and leadership off the ice.

In an emotional statement, Shattenkirk thanked the Colorado Avalanche for giving him his start and the St. Louis Blues for making him feel at home for seven years. He thanked the New York Rangers for letting him play with his favorite team as a child and the Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, and Boston Bruins. He thanked everyone behind the scenes, equipment staff and trainers, and his agent.

Shattenkirk said he accomplished all of his career goals, including playing for his country and winning a Stanley Cup. He thanked his family and his wife Deanna, along with his children, Connor, Isla, and Hazel. He then thanked the fans.
