J.T. Miller Trade Rumors to the New Jersey Devils: Fact or Fiction?

Despite many rumors coming linking the Devils and Canucks in trade talks, New Jersey’s GM just came out to deny the J.T. Miller trade talks.

The New Jersey Devils are gearing up for an active trade deadline, aiming to address needs across multiple positions, including center, defense, and a scoring winger. The need for a scoring winger has been evident since the summer, as the Devils have yet to replace the production of Tyler Toffoli, now with the San Jose Sharks. Adding offense remains a top priority.

Additionally, the Devils are seeking to fill the void left by Michael McLeod, who is currently embroiled in a legal battle involving Hockey Canada. McLeod was emerging as a key contributor, and his absence has created a gap in the lineup.

With their sights set on making a deep playoff run, New Jersey’s management is expected to aggressively pursue the right pieces to solidify their roster.

Recently, reports have come out linking the New Jersey Devils to the Vancouver Canucks J.T. Miller. It has been documented, especially here on NHLTradeTalk.com, the Canucks are open to either moving Miller or Elias Pettersson and potentially both players.

Devils and Miller Trade Buzz Picking Up Steam: Anything There?

Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet speculated on the connection between the Devils and Canucks a couple of days ago in a recent article.

“While it may be easier to move either, or both, of Miller and Pettersson in the off-season, it’s not impossible something could happen before March 7. If it does, keep an eye on New Jersey for either player. They have assets and player pieces the Canucks could find attractive, and at the moment are on track to have about $7.469 million in deadline day salary cap space, according to PuckPedia.”

However, things started to gain more steam on Friday. As Rick Dhaliwal on Halford and Brough on Sportsnet 650 stated, the Devils had an interest in Miller, and the Rangers did not want him going there.

However, all of this J.T. Miller talk to the New Jersey Devils is just smoke. Speaking on Devils, President and GM Tom Fitzgerald was on Sportsnet 590, and when asked about the trade chatter surrounding Miller, he poured cold water right on it.

Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald was on SN The Fan 590 on Thursday and poured cold water on the rumours. “Patrik (Allvin, Canucks GM) and I are really good friends. Quite honestly, we haven’t talked,” he said.

The Devils want to add scoring, but there is a potential for another Canuck the team is looking to add scoring in Brock Boeser. As Fitzgerald told Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, he is open to a rental and a player with term.

But the Devils are in the market to add players, and they may have a trade chip to use, but it will not be for J.T. Miller.
