Joe Pavelski and Stars Finalize Terms on 1-Year Extension

Joe Pavelski and the Dallas Stars have finalized a one-year extension, worth $5.5 million for next season with performance bonuses.

Take another name off the list of potentially big names available as part of the chaos that can be the NHL Trade Deadline. Whether the Dallas Stars make the playoffs or not, veteran forward Joe Pavelski likely isn’t going anywhere. The Stars and Pavelski have come to terms on a one-year extension worth $5.5 million.

The deal includes an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses which are tied to the number of games Pavelski plays next season: he will receive $100,000 at each 10-, 20-, 30-, 40- and 50-game milestone. Pavelski also has a full no-movement clause in his contract, according to a source.

Pavelski said in statement regarding the extension, ”“Sarah, Nate and I have loved the city of Dallas and the Stars organization since day one. We are very committed to winning here.”

Pavelski, 37, is in the final year of a three-year contract with a $7 million cap hit, and was set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. He leads the Stars in team scoring with 59 points.

As Saad Youseff of The Athletic writes: ”As Jim Nill told @PierreVLeBrun a few weeks ago, keeping Joe Pavelski in Dallas has been a priority. His production speaks for itself but his chemistry with Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, along with his leadership and locker room influence has been instrumental.”
