Jets’ Laine Out Of Lineup With Injury, Listed As Day-to-Day

Winnipeg Jets’ Patrik Laine dealing with Injury. Is listed as -day-to -day and could miss back-to-back Jets games.

Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine is off to a good start this season, but he got some bad news over the weekend and will miss Monday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with an upper-body injury. The news was delivered by coach Paul Maurice who spoke with Laine briefly at practice before the forward left the ice early.

Reports are that whatever the injury, it’s not expected to keep Laine out of the lineup for a long time and he is currently listed as day-to-day. Removing him from the game on Monday against the Toronto Maple Leafs was more a move out of caution than anything. The Jets simply wanted to make sure he was healed up fully before putting him back in and possibly aggravating things further.

The Jets are set to play against the Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. ET Monday evening and have another game set on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators in a back-to-back. It is not clear if he will miss both games.

Laine would have come into the contests after two goals and an assist in a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames.

Keeping Him Out Is Wise

Not only does removing Laine from the lineup if he’s not fully ready to go make sense from a short-term standpoint, but as rumors of Laine in trade talks continue to swirl, the last thing the Jets organization needs is for the sniper to suffer a long-term injury.

Laine’s contract and the regulations around trading players across the border during a pandemic already make in-season trades tricky. If Laine is seriously hurt, the Jets will have no choice but to stop taking calls or shopping the forward.
