The Edmonton Oilers got some good news on Saturday as the team found out that another negative COVID-19 test means that forward Jesse Puljujarvi can rejoin the team and is no longer on the COVID protocol list. He’s been cleared to resume activities with the club and should be in the lineup on Monday as the Oilers take on the Winnipeg Jets.

The Oilers scrambled a bit on Thursday as the team found out early in the morning that Puljujarvi was being held out of practice because a COVID test came back inconclusive. He was given two other tests, both which produced negative results and was was freed to leave isolation. Fortunately, for the Oilers, they were able to leave Montreal with a 3-0 victory.

Puljujarvi will end up missing only one game for the Oilers, which is also really good news. He was just starting to get hot with multiple goals in his last handful of games. More than that, he was building chemistry with Connor McDavid and taking Puljujarvi out of the lineup for four or five games might have brought a halt to his momentum.

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet is reporting that Puljujarvi returned to Edmonton from Montreal on a charter flight and is eligible to participate in tomorrow’s practice.

Oilers Have Been Relatively Lucky With Absences

So far this season, the Oilers haven’t been decimated by injuries or COVID-related news. The team has remained relatively healthy and Puljujarvi’s scare with a potential positive test came at the best time (if there is a good time). The Oilers played Montreal on Thursday and then got a three-day break before a game Monday night.

The team is hoping Puljujarvi will slot right back in on the team’s top line and not miss a beat.
