Islanders to Announce Signing of Nazem Kadri This Week [Report]

Reports are that the New York Islanders will announce the signing of Nazem Kadri as early as this week.

According to hockey insider and long-time media hockey icon John Shannon, Nazem Kadri should be signing with the New York Islanders soon. Shannon is reporting that he’s hearing a deal is close and while he couldn’t confirm when it would be announced, it sounds like everyone is simply waiting for the other shoe to drop which is potentially the movement of some money off the Islanders’ roster. Something could be announced in the next few days.

Shannon was a guest on the Sekeres and Price show and noted, “I do think he ends up with the New York Islanders. I do think there are still some chairs to move on the cruise ship before they can announce it. but it wouldn’t surprise me that it gets done this week.” When asked what the delay is, Shannon responded that Lou has to move some money. He notes, “I got it from a very good source that is going to happen very soon.”

Shannon isn’t alone as multiple reports are surfacing that the Kadri deal with the Islanders is going to be announced very soon. Jason Gregor of Daily Faceoff says he spoke with two opposing GMs who believe Kadri is signing with the Islanders as well. Others have said they’ve heard the same thing.

At this point, it could simply be a matter of someone like Semyon Varlamov being moved to free up some cap space and the Vegas Golden Knights might be a team that comes into play here as they need a goalie with Robin Lehner now out for the season.

What Kind of Deal Is It For Kadri?

What’s also surfacing is talk about how much Kadri had to settle for. The Islanders’ offer is $2 million per year less than what Kadri was reportedly asking for, per Larry Brooks and others are reporting that the forward was not able to get a team to commit to the $9 million per season he was thought to be seeking.

Could he get $7 million times seven years from the Islanders? Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reports that the deal the Islanders tabled. If so, and he accepted, is that considered a bargain?
