Golden Knights Sign Adin Hill to 2-Yr Contract Extension

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed goaltender Adin Hill to a two-year contract extension after his stellar playoff performance.

The Vegas Golden Knights have secured their goaltending future for the next couple of years by signing Adin Hill to a two-year contract extension. Hill, who played a key role in Vegas’ 2023 Stanley Cup victory in his first season with the team, will continue to be an integral part of their goaltending tandem, likely along with Logan Thompson as Jonathan Quick heads to the New York Rangers and Laurent Brossoit’s future remains unclear.

During the regular season, Hill set career highs in games played (27), starts (25), and wins (16). He boasted impressive statistics with a 2.50 goals-against average (GAA) and a .915 save percentage. But, it was in this past season’s playoffs that he really shined. Hill’s performance elevated even further as he went 11-4 in the team’s final 16 games. He led the league with a remarkable .932 save percentage, recorded a 2.17 GAA, and secured two shutouts. The Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup with him coming out of nowhere and backstopping them to a championship.

Hill’s outstanding play since January 1, encompassing both the regular season and playoffs, solidified his reputation as a top-tier goaltender. With a .930 save percentage and a 2.19 GAA during that period, he showcased his ability to perform at an elite level when it mattered most. His remarkable contributions led to him finishing third in the voting for the Conn Smythe Trophy, recognizing the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Is This a Good Deal for Hill?

The question now is, can Hill take the next step? With a reported $4.9 million cap hit, he falls just outside the top 16 starters in terms of salary and he’ll be paid like a goaltender who should be playing at least 50 games. This may present a challenge for Hill, as he has not been a full-time starting goaltender since his days with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks in the 2015-16 season.

Nonetheless, the Vegas Golden Knights have shown their confidence in Hill’s abilities by committing to him for the next two years. His exceptional performance in the Stanley Cup playoffs and his continued growth as a goaltender make him a valuable asset for the team as they strive for further success in the seasons to come.
