Less than 24 hours after the Vancouver Canucks fired Travis Green and Jim Benning, the Philadelphia Flyers have cleaned out their coaching staff by relieving Alain Vigneault as head coach and Michel Therrien is out as Flyers assistant coach.

Mike Yeo will be the Flyers coach tonight vs. the Colorado Avalanche in the second game of a back-to-back. NHL insider Frank Seravalli writes, “We’ll see where this goes, but my sense is Rick Tocchet will be high on Philadelphia’s candidate list.”
Vigneault signed a five-year deal worth $5 million a year back in April of 2019 so the Flyers are on the hook for another two and a half years of his deal. He’s unlikely to be coaching again anywhere else anytime soon. He had a 74-54-19 record with the Flyers during his time as head coach. It’s amazing how quickly things went badly for Vigneault. In 2019-20, his first season with the Flyers, he finished as the runner-up for the Jack Adams Award (Coach of the Year).
The Flyers had a terrible season in 2020-21 and GM Chuck Fletcher made a number of player changes in an attempt to reshape and improve team chemistry. Since that hasn’t worked and the Flyers continue to struggle, the next step is to relieve the coaching staff of their duties.
