Flyers’ Carter Hart Done For Rest of 2020-21 NHL Season

Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart is done for the rest of this season thanks to an MCL sprain in his left knee.

Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart is done for the rest of this season. The team made an announcement on Thursday that he’d be sitting the remainder of the campaign with an MCL sprain in his left knee. This is a huge loss for the Flyers, but it’s probably the right decision considering where they are at this season.

Hart did not travel with the Flyers for the team’s back-to-back set on the road against the Rangers over Thursday and Friday at Madison Square Garden. It was clear something was up and with the Flyers now sitting sixth in the East Division and seven points back of the New York Rangers with only seven games left to play, they are all but out of the running.

“I know Carter wants to get back and playing with his teammates, but he still feels a little bit of discomfort,” Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said four days ago. “We’ve had four different doctors take a look at the MRI, they all say the same thing, that it’s a mild sprain. … We’re just being a little bit cautious there, I know how badly he wants to get back at it.”

Hart wasn’t having the best season anyway. He finished 9-11-5 with a 3.67 goals-against average and .877 save percentage. It was really the first time in his NHL career that he looked average.
