Flames Extend Defenseman Brayden Pachal with Two-Year Deal

The Calgary Flames have extended defenseman Brayden Pachal to a two-year deal at a reasonable $1.1875 million cap hit.

The Calgary Flames have signed defenseman Brayden Pachal to a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value (AAV) of $1,187,500. The deal ensures Pachal, who was set to become a restricted free agent, remains with the Flames through the 2025-26 season, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Pachal, 25, has skated in all 31 games for Calgary this season, contributing one goal and one assist alongside 27 penalty minutes. He has averaged 14:31 of ice time per game. Flames beat reporter Wes Gilbertson wrote, “Pachal has proven to be a heck of a find on the waiver wire. He’s now an every-nighter on Calgary’s third pairing.”

Known for his physical play, Pachal ranks third on the team with 72 hits and continues to provide a steady presence on the blue line. He is closing in on his 100th NHL game, currently sitting at 93 career appearances.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2019, Pachal spent most of his time in the AHL before joining Calgary. Claimed off waivers by the Flames in February 2024, Pachal quickly became a mainstay in the lineup, suiting up for all 64 games since his arrival.

His reliable, physical style of play has been a welcome addition for a Flames defense corps in transition. With this extension, Calgary locks in an emerging blue-liner as they continue to reshape their back end.
