Evgeni Malkin Out a Month After Elbow Surgery

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni malkin underwent successful elbow surgery and will miss about one month.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that Evgeni Malkin underwent successful surgery on his left elbow and has been given a recovery timeline of three to four weeks.

The team wrote in a tweet on Monday, “The surgery was performed at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital by team physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, and Dr. John Fowler of UPMC Shoulder and Elbow Orthopedic Surgery.”

Malkin took some heat this past postseason for his inability to elevate his game and be productive in a surprising loss to the Montreal Canadiens. There is a lot of talking that the Penguins will make sweeping changes to the roster, some wondering if Malkin could be part of those changes.

Malkin himself has said he has no desire to play elsewhere and he, along with Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang are said to be safe according to public comments by GM Jim Rutherford.

There were also whispers that Malkin wasn’t too pleased with the team for removing all of the assistant coaches, specifically his good friend Sergei Gonchar.

There is certainly still a lot of game left in the year 34-year-old. He recorded 74 points in 55 games this past regular season, the ninth consecutive season he has scored at a rate better than a point-per-game.
