Evander Kane Threatens “Truth” After Being Called Out By Former Teammate

Following an interview in which an ex-teammate essentially called Evander Kane a nightmare to play with, the former Edmonton Oilers winger is not staying quiet. 

Kane took to social media to respond publicly to the story by Kurtis Gabriel that included Kane showing up late to meetings, underdressing, and stealing the air out of the room. Gabriel said, “I meant everything I said. I did not enjoy my time playing with you at all…it was absurd to be honest. This is quite literally the “lightest” story I could tell about you…”

The story was about him walking into a team meeting late, wearing flip-flops and disrespecting his Sharks teammates. He suggested Kane was hurting inside, which caused him to act out. Gabriel then said he got in Kane’s face at the time, in which he just backed down. 

Kane likely saw the viral interview taking on a life of its own and responded. 

“I can’t wait for the day I decide to share “my truths.” The only difference? Mine will come with facts, receipts, and the actual truth. For now, I’ll simply say this: a lot of people have become far too comfortable speaking publicly while relying on my silence. Enjoy it while it lasts. There are plenty of (bomb emoji) with plenty of names attached. When the time is right, everything will speak for itself. That is all.”

I can’t wait for the day I decide to share “my truths.” The only difference? Mine will come with facts, receipts, and the actual truth.

Understandably, Kane isn’t pleased that the response to the story about him as a member of the Sharks organization has garnered so much attention. It certainly doesn’t help that he’s trying to land with another team as an unrestricted free agent but has been unable to secure a new contract. The narrative that surrounds him as a troubled teammate can’t help him secure a job or land a solid contract.

Whether Kane actually reveals some of the “facts” he says he has remains to be seen. If he does spill the truth as he sees it, many won’t buy his side of the story given his checkered past in the NHL and the many times he’s been suspended, including when he was suspended for 21 games without pay by the NHL on Monday for an “established violation” of the NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 protocol. He submitted a fake vaccination card.

It likely also doesn’t help that he’s responding to this on social media, as teams will see his response and realize that he’s anything but removed from the drama.

Kane did, however, have a solid run with the Edmonton Oilers before being traded to the Canucks. While there appeared to be a little friction at times with his Oilers teammates, he was seen as a solid teammate and a big part of the community.
