Ekman-Larsson Sets Deadline on Any Trade Out Arizona

Ekman-Larsson’s agent Kevin Epp says his client has told the Coyotes if they don’t trade him by Friday, he’ll refuse any trade going forward

If the trade that could see defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson wasn’t already potentially complicated enough, the blueliner has now told the Arizona Coyotes they have a deadline in which to move him if they plan to send him to one of his two preferred teams.

Reports are that Ekman-Larsson has advised the Coyotes that he’ll be willing to waive his no-trade clause to join either the Boston Bruins or the Vancouver Canucks. To date, a trade has not materialized. Now, he’s put the Coyotes on the clock.

Ekman-Larsson’s agent Kevin Epp reached out to several media sources on Tuesday and informed them that his client has told the Coyotes if they don’t trade him by Friday, he’ll refuse any trade going forward and stay in Arizona. Darren Dreger of TSN reports that he was one of the media that was explained the situation and was advised that the deal needed to be completed before the start of free agency on October 9.

Elliotte Friedman received the same report and wrote that if he’s not moved by them, “he will close the window and stay a Coyote.”

The question is, who is this a message to? Is this Ekman-Larsson reaching out to the Canucks and Bruins and suggesting that if either team wants him they need to pony up the assets to acquire him? Or, is this a message to the Coyotes hinting they need to accept one of the trade offers being made if they want to move him.

It sounds like the defenseman really has no desire to go anywhere. Either that, or he was willing to try and help out but doesn’t want this thing to drag on.
