Dwane Casey Hired by Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have hired Dwane Casey as their next head coach.
The Detroit Pistons have hired Dwane Casey on a five-year deal as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski early Monday morning. Casey was rumored to be a target for the Pistons and Monday it was made official when the former head coach of the Toronto Raptors signed on to lead a Piston’s team that could make a run if a few of the right pieces are added this offseason.

Casey was released by the Toronto Raptors after they failed to get past the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in this year’s NBA playoffs. It was another year of postseason disappointment after a strong regular season that many believed could see the Raptors contend for the NBA Championship. Casey was one of the top-ranked coaches of the year and voted so by his peers, so while it was odd to see him released, it wasn’t terribly shocking considering the clubs lack of success come playoff time.
The Raptors are still looking to fill his position but it wasn’t going to be long that Casey was out of work. He had met with the Pistons a couple of times and was quite interested in the job knowing that it wouldn’t take long to potentially make the Pistons a contender.
