Ducks Sign A.J. Greer To a Four-Year Extension Hours Ahead of NHL Free Agency

The Anaheim Ducks have signed A.J. Greer to a new contract extension. The deal is for four years, at $4.25 million per season.

According to reports, the Anaheim Ducks have signed A.J. Greer to a new contract extension. The deal is for four years, at $4.25 million per season.

The move comes just days after Anaheim acquired Greer’s negotiating rights from the Florida Panthers in a swap that sent longtime Ducks captain Radko Gudas the other way. General manager Pat Verbeek made his intentions clear as soon as the trade was finalized, saying the club hoped to get a deal done with Greer quickly.

A Career Year Pays Off

The new deal represents a massive raise for the 29-year-old, who played out the final season of a two-year, $1.7 million contract carrying just an $850,000 cap hit in Florida. Greer had a breakout season, setting career highs across the board with 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points in 78 games.

Beyond the offense, Greer brings physicality and defensive reliability. At 6-foot-3 and 207 pounds, he’s logged regular penalty-kill minutes throughout his career and adds an element of toughness that fits the mold of recent Ducks additions built around the team’s young core.

With the deal, Greer chooses not to test free agency on Wednesday. It would have been interesting to see if he’d have gotten more on the open market. Still, this is a nice contract for him and the Ducks are hoping his 2025-26 season is an indication that he’s going to trend upward.
