While it has yet to be officially confirmed by the Minnesota Wild and the San Jose Sharks, the expected trade that would see Devan Dubnyk go the Sharks looks to be completed. As per Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, the deal is officially done. Michael Russo also notes the trade is official. Details of the deal are: The Wild are receiving a 2022 fifth-round pick from San Jose, which also gets a 2022 seventh-rounder from the Wild.

The Wild retained the maximum half of Dubnyk’s remaining contract, sources say. Russo writes:

“So they’ll pay him $1.25 million and carry a $2.17 million cap hit for Dubnyk next season. A buyout would have cost the Wild $1.67 million in cash spread over two years and a $2.67 million cap hit next season and $833,333 cap hit in 2021-22.”

The deal was rumored to have been in the works for some time and some were shocked that the news didn’t come at the same time that the Ryan Donato trade to the Sharks was announced. In the end, it didn’t matter.

The Sharks will now have their one-two punch with Martin Jones and Dubnyk and the Wild will be able to hit up the free agency market, looking for a replacement between the pipes. It was said by GM Bill Guerin that improving the goaltending situation in Minnesota was a huge priority.

In 520 career NHL games, Dubnyk is 247-195-52 with a 2.58 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.

We’ll have more details as they become available.
