Dale Tallon Being Investigated For Racially Insensitive Remarks
Former Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon is being investigated for racially insensitive remarks while in the NHL bubble.
While the NHL is refusing to comment other than to confirm the information, it has been learned, as per a report by FloridaHockeyNow.com, that the league is investigating whether or not former Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon made racially insensitive comments during his team’s time in the Toronto bubble.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly did confirm an investigation was under way to The Associated Press on Friday but in an email, Daly did not provide any details of the allegations.
The publication by George Richards notes that an unidentified person has reported Tallon used “racially charged language” and while it’s not clear if this had anything to do with Tallon being let go by the Panthers after a 10-year tenure with the organization, it is believed the two situations are separate decisions. According to Richards, “the alleged incident was only recently bought to the attention of the league and then relayed to the team during the NHL’s investigation.”
That said, this investigation is not new. It was initiated more than a week ago and is said to include looking into what are multiple instances of Tallon making inappropriate comments.
The Panthers and Tallon Have Not Commented
There’s never a good time to hear that someone may have made racially insensitive remarks. That said, that this investigation is underway while the NHL is on pause due to protests from the players after Jacob Blake was shot seven times will shine a very bright light on the matter.
The Panthers have responded in request for comment and Tallon has not commented either.
