Connor McDavid Doesn’t Want to Talk About Himself with Oilers Down 3–1
Connor McDavid wasn’t interested in talking about himself after the Edmonton Oilers’ Game 4 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are already on the brink of elimination. A rough two-game trip to Anaheim that ended in a controversial Game 4 overtime loss has the back-to-back Western Conference champions on the ropes, down 3–1 heading back to Alberta.
The play and production of the captain have been a major talking point this series, especially after being held off the scoresheet through Games 1 and 2. The points found the world’s best player in SoCal, as they often do, but McDavid still hasn’t looked quite like himself, with a suspected ankle injury — potentially among other things — ailing him.
Despite that, he did have some good looks on Sunday night, including a glorious opportunity to take a late third-period lead on one of his patented rush chances, but Lukas Dostal kept it out with the toe of his skate, allowing the Ducks to get to overtime and win it. When asked about that play and other chances he had throughout the night, however, McDavid was not too interested in talking about it.
“It’s not really about Connor McDavid here it’s about two teams that are trying to figure each other out, and obviously they’re playing well. We’ve got another level as a group, but I felt there were some good signs tonight,”
The 29-year-old McDavid has produced four points (one goal, three assists) through four games this postseason, sporting a -6 rating in the process.

Frustration is mounting in Edmonton, and they’ll need to figure it out quickly in order to stave off elimination at home on Tuesday night.
If not, it will be the earliest the Oilers have seen their season come to an end since being swept by the Winnipeg Jets back in 2020–21. Such an upset and disappointing result would not only sting but also raise serious questions about the future of the team and their ability to compete for a Stanley Cup moving forward.
