Concerning Footage Hints That Oilers’ Jason Dickinson Is Injured Again
Is Jason Dicksinon of the Edmonton Oilers injured again? Thursday’s practice footage was concerning.
It’s unclear if Jason Dickinson will be ruled out of Thursday’s game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Utah Mammoth, but the center hobbled off the ice during the morning game-day practice and did not return. Mark Spector of Sportsnet captured video footage of Dickinson in noticeable discomfort, which is not good news for the Oilers, who are already without Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Jake Walman, Mattias Janmark, and Frederik Andersen.
Dickinson has had a slow start to the season. He missed training camp while recovering from a nagging ankle injury he sustained late in 2025-26. He re-aggravated the injury in September, and Mike Babcock said he’d had a setback. That kept him out of the opener. The Oilers activated him Oct. 7, and Babcock said it would probably take him a bit of time to get rolling.
Dickinson has looked better of late, and he was slotted in as the team’s second-line center going into Thursday’s game against a red hot Mammoth team.
Dickinson signed a five-year, $4-million-per-year deal in June and was expected to play a bottom-six role. He’s been playing higher in the lineup with so many injuries in the Oilers’ top six. If he’s out, it’s another injury setback for a team that needs healthy players. Long-term, it’s concerning, seeing as Dickinson looks to be hitting repeated setbacks as he tries to recover.

Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 writes: “Dickinson leaving midway through morning skate has his status for tonight up in the air. Ankles can get tweaked, and he was in discomfort leaving the ice. But that could be short-term, and he’ll be fine, or he might have aggravated something again.”
