Canadiens Not Shopping Tomas Tatar or Jeff Petry

Montreal Canadiens certainly aren’t shopping Tomas Tatar or Jeff Petry despite rumors they could be traded.

The Montreal Canadiens may have more names than any team in this year’s trade rumors. From Ilya Kovalchuk as a rental to Shea Weber or Carey Price as a franchise altering move, there are few players whose names haven’t popped up, even if the trades seem unlikely.

Two recent names to hit the mill have gained some steam. But, a recent report suggest fans not get overly excited about the prospect of either player leaving.

TVA Sports Renaud Lavoie is denying reports the Canadiens are shopping either of Tomas Tatar or Jeff Petry. Both names have been in the news lately, Tatar being connected to the Edmonton Oilers over the last couple of days. Lavoie admits it’s not out of the question either moves, but the desire by the Canadiens to move them is overblown.

Lavoie claims the Canadiens aren’t shopping either player, they aren’t looking to move either player and they aren’t under pressure to trade either player. In fact, Lavoie doesn’t expect Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin to be all that busy at this year’s trade deadline.

Canadiens Aren’t Out of It

While a reach, the Canadiens aren’t technically out of the playoff picture. A win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime on Saturday have kept them in the hunt. Don’t expect the Canadiens to be buyers either.

The most likely scenario is that with a couple of losses, the Canadiens realize this season is out of reach and a player like Kovalchuk moves because a few teams come calling, the return being too good to turn away.
